Add New Environment

The Add New Environment option on the General Setup window from the Configure menu influences the behavior of the Open Environment window.

Add New Environment Enabled

When Add New Environment is enabled, the number of possible environments is the value of the MAXENV parameter set in the HTML file, or a default value of 4 if MAXENV is not provided. The MAXENV number cannot change through any action in the applet. It always specifies the maximum number of environments regardless of whether the Add New Environment option is enabled.

The number of available environments is the number of possible (MAXENV + 1) environments minus the number of environments that are currently configured. Only configured environments appear by name in the list box on the Terminal Environment window. Available, but unopened and unconfigured, environments do not appear in the list. A generic choice of “New” from the list box on the window will open a new environment and give you the opportunity to configure it.

When you have already opened and configured all of the possible environments, you will get a message box informing you “All Available Environments Are Already Open.”

For example, a MAXENV = 15 makes it possible to open and configure 15 window environments and one web environment. If you configure 2 of these environments, then the names of these environments will appear in the list box on the Terminal Environments window along with the [New] button. The message at the top of the Terminal Environments window will say “13 out of 15 possible environments are available.”

Add New Environment Disabled

When Add New Environment is disabled, the user does not have the ability to open or configure any new environments. Therefore, the numbers of possible and available environments are the same number. Both are represented by the number of environments already configured and saved in the configuration file.

The configured environments available to be opened are listed in the Terminal Environments window’s list box. The [New] button is dimmed since there is no possibility of configuring additional environments.

When you have opened all of the configured environments, you will get a message box informing you “All Available Environments Are Already Open.”
